Cookie Policy
Last Updated: October 2026
The ThreadArt website uses cookies for one thing: Google's analytics and advertising measurement, and only if you accept them. The iOS app sets no cookies and loads no analytics at all. This page explains what is set, what we store on your device besides cookies, and how to change your choice.
Your chat is never involved. Nothing you upload, no message text and no participant name is ever sent to Google or anyone else. The only things measured are counts (how many messages a chat had, how many people were in it) and which product was bought.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to keep, so the site can recognise you on your next visit or follow you between pages. They are the usual way sites track visitors, remember logins and serve targeted advertising.
Cookies on the website
When you first visit threadart.net a bar at the bottom of the page asks whether you accept cookies for analytics and ad measurement. Until you choose, and if you decline, no analytics or advertising cookies are set. If you accept, Google's tag sets the cookies below.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Tells visits apart so we can see how many people upload a chat, make a word cloud and order a print, and which steps lose people | Up to 2 years |
| _gcl_au, _gcl_aw | Google Ads | Measures whether a visit that came from one of our Google ads led to an upload or an order, so we know which ads are worth running | Up to 3 months |
These cookies are set by Google under the Google tag we load, and the data goes to Google. We use it only in aggregate. We do not build profiles of individual visitors, and we do not sell or share it. How Google handles it is described in Google's cookie policy.
If you decline, the tag stays in "denied" mode: it sets no cookies and cannot recognise you between visits. Google may still receive cookieless, anonymous pings that it uses for aggregate modelling, which is how it reports totals without identifying anyone.
What we store on your device besides cookies
Everything you do with your chat — uploading it, customising the word cloud, reading the Chat Insights — happens in your browser's (or the app's) memory and is gone when you close the tab or the app. Two small flags are kept in local storage:
| Item | Where | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| ta_consent | Browser local storage (website only) | Remembers whether you accepted or declined cookies, so the bar does not ask again | Until you clear site data or change your choice below |
| insights.unlocked | The iOS app's local storage (browser local storage on the web) | Remembers that the Chat Insights in-app purchase has been bought | Until you delete the app or clear site data |
Neither is a cookie: they are never sent to any server, contain nothing about you, and cannot be used to track you.
Third-party cookies
Google (analytics and ad measurement)
Described above. Loaded only on the website, only after you accept, and never in the iOS app.
Stripe (payment)
When you order a print you are taken to a checkout page hosted by Stripe, on Stripe's own domain. Stripe sets its own cookies there for security and fraud prevention while you pay. They are controlled by Stripe, not by us, and are covered by Stripe's privacy policy.
Everything else
Background photos are fetched through our own server, so choosing a photo does not connect your device to Pexels. Printify never interacts with your browser. There are no embedded social media widgets, videos or other ad networks.
Your choices
You can change your mind at any time. Your current choice on this browser is shown below; switching to Decline tells the Google tag to stop immediately, though cookies it has already set stay in your browser until they expire or you clear site data for threadart.net.
Analytics and ad-measurement cookies: declined
Blocking cookies in your browser settings also works and has no effect on ThreadArt itself, other than possibly on the Stripe checkout page. To remove the Chat Insights unlock flag, clear site data for threadart.net, or delete and reinstall the iOS app (the purchase can be restored).
Changes to this policy
If we add or change any cookies, this page will say so, with a new "Last Updated" date, before it happens.
